Meet Sanmita Muthukrishnan, a bright young artist whose creativity blooms from her love for nature and family. Her curious eye and joyful heart bring her artwork to life through gentle colors, detailed brushwork, and imagination. At just seven, this young artist finds joy in every little thing around her. When she’s not painting or drawing, Sanmita loves swimming, solving jigsaw puzzles, and playing with her sister. She also enjoys spending time outdoors with friends, helping her mom in the garden, and capturing nature’s beauty through her camera lens. With a big imagination and a caring heart, Sanmita dreams of becoming a nature photographer, combining her love for art, animals, and the world around her.
Who or what inspires you to make art?
“My older sister and my mom inspire me to make art. In addition, I love looking at nature, so I’ve always wanted to draw lots of nature-themed artwork.”
Sanmita’s inspiration comes from the people closest to her and the natural surroundings. Moreover, her deep appreciation for nature shines through her art. From colorful flowers to leafy patterns, she brings her favorite scenes to life with thoughtful details.
What’s your favorite thing to draw or paint these days?
“I like to draw and paint different types of flowers and leaves. Sometimes, I also enjoy painting my stuffed toys and cute animals like teddy bears. It always makes me really happy to draw my favorite things. I hope to draw more cute bears in future art classes, especially ones like Winnie the Pooh.”
From flowers to friendly teddy bears, Sanmita’s art captures the gentle charm of childhood imagination. Furthermore, each piece shows joy, warmth, and positivity, reflecting her love for all things cute and cozy.
You and your sister Sananda both take Nimmy’s art classes. Do you both show each other your artwork?
“Yes, we share our artworks and appreciate each other’s creations. We also give each other tips on how to make the details look better.”
It’s heartwarming to see how creativity connects siblings. Indeed, Sanmita and Sananda’s artistic bond not only brings them closer but also helps them grow as young artists who learn from and inspire each other.
What was your favorite painting from Summer Art Camp 2025, Why?
This choice shows Sanmita’s love for nature and her care for the environment. Through this piece, she expresses both creativity and compassion, two qualities that make her truly special.
What was your most fun moment in summer art camp this year?
The most fun moment in Summer Art Camp this year was sharing my artwork during Show & Tell. I was very proud of my artwork and loved showing it to Ms. Nimmy. I also learned how to draw many facial expressions in the “Face Expressions” colored pencil drawing. I really liked using colored pencils.
Without a doubt, sharing art brings confidence, and for Sanmita, that moment was filled with pride and joy. Her curiosity and eagerness to learn new techniques show how much she values creativity and growth.
Which art medium did you enjoy the most in our Live Art Classes?
“My favorite art medium is watercolor. Specifically, I like how you can create lighter color tones just by adding water. I think it’s easier to use than other mediums. I also like oil pastels because they blend nicely, but I still prefer watercolors the most.”
For Sanmita, watercolor feels like the perfect fit. Its soft flow and blending nature match her calm, thoughtful personality.
Fun fact: Watercolor is one of the oldest and most expressive art forms in the world, perfect for young artists like Sanmita who love experimenting with color and blending techniques.
What do you love the most about our live art classes each week?
“My favorite thing about the weekly art classes is drawing and painting different objects, landscapes, and characters each week. I love learning new skills from Ms. Nimmy, especially when we draw something cute in class. It always makes me feel excited and inspired.”
Clearly, Sanmita’s creativity thrives in an environment filled with variety and encouragement. Each new subject helps her discover another side of her talent, and her love for “cute” themes adds so much joy to her artwork.
If your artwork could come to life, which one would you want to meet or explore?
“I’d love to draw a pet hamster so I could be friends with it. Another fun idea would be a cute, friendly teddy bear that talks to me, or maybe even outer space, where I could explore Mars with the rovers.”
Sanmita’s imagination is full of adventure. Whether it’s befriending a talking teddy bear or exploring outer space, her creative world is limitless, proof that every young artist holds entire universes in their mind.
What advice would you give to kids who are starting to do art?
“I would tell them to always try their best and remember that everyone’s drawings are different and unique in their own way. If ever they don’t like how their artwork turns out, I’d tell them to keep practicing during their free time until they feel proud of what they create.”
That’s wonderful advice from such a young artist. Ultimately, Sanmita’s words remind us that creativity is all about patience, practice, and pride in progress. Every artist, big or small, starts somewhere, and what matters most is the heart they put into it.
“I’m so proud to see you grow into such a creative artist. Your art reflects a heart that truly sees the beauty in the world around you. The way you capture nature, kindness, and imagination in your paintings shows a rare gift, one that comes from curiosity and love. Keep exploring, keep creating, and never stop believing in the magic you can bring to life with your colors and brush. Every time you paint, you’re not just making art, you’re sharing a piece of your beautiful spirit with the world.”– Nimmy Melvin
